A Beautiful Picture

A fragrant bouquet/hostess gift

Since our son was almost three he has expressed interest in salvation. I did my best to explain to him what it was and led him in a simple prayer. He was very young, of course.

Then recently he has brought up more than once that he accepted Christ as his Savior in K4 during prayer time. [Amen and hallelujah!]

And then! He’s seen a couple of his friends get baptized. And has said he would like to as well.

I’ve talked to him about what that means. And Chris has talked to him about it. But tonight our Pastor talked to him about baptism and we are all agreed that he has a solid grasp on it what it all entails.

Valuable conversation took place at this table.

Baptism is …

“A picture. A picture to show the world that you are saved.”

This is what our pastor articulated so clearly to our son, sitting at our dining room table.

I was in the kitchen packing the dishwasher but praising God in my spirit, hearing the Truth being shared so personally with my baby.

He clung to every word, nodded with understanding, and seriously chose his answers.

Pictures of flowers last forever.

It’s so important to us because …

It’s so important to us that our children give their lives to the Lord because without Him their future is dark and hopeless.

When I was maybe about my son’s age I was slightly pushed to profess salvation and shortly after was baptized at church. I knew the right words to say because I had the general understanding of what it all meant.

But I struggled with assurance for years.

So when I was twelve I settled it once and for all—and made a point to write down the date of the decision so I wouldn’t be plagued by doubt anymore.

December 31, 2001

It was humbling but I got baptized a second time in front of the same congregation. But this time it was for real.

Members came up to me after and mentioned how they had noticed something was different about me.

I was baptized to illustrate the beautiful picture of what it means to be buried in His likeness and risen to walk in newness of life.

I look forward to witness my child proclaim this to the world.

Make sure you know where you’re spending eternity.

About THis blog

Grace + Common Sense

This world is crazy and if I pay too much attention to it I will lose heart and mind. So what to do? Lavishly sprinkle grace and common sense unto everything: motherhood, spiritual and mental health, wellness, fitness. Life.

Common sense is a luxury… and grace is often withheld where it could be poured out. Thankfully, we have such THE Perfect Example to follow.

This is what my blog is all about.
