The Simplest Sourdough

I’ve tried and failed. But this one was successful.

I’ve made several loaves in my lifetime and have not been fully in love with the outcome until I came across this simple, simple recipe. There’s no going back now!

I just need to invest in a Dutch oven at some point.

Here is the recipe:

I used Google to help translate the measurements. So here you have it:

Ingredients:

Listed above in the order I added them to the bowl.

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/2 cup fed sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (heated up for 1 minute in the microwave seemed to make it the perfect temperature)
Mixing with baby in hand.

How to make:

The night before you want to have some fresh-baked bread, combine all four ingredients and cover with a damp cloth and let sit for 30 minutes.

Knead 8 times to form a ball . Cover and let ferment for 12-18 hours. (I used the damp cloth).

Knead into a log shape. Rest for 10 minutes. Place in a parchment paper lined pan. Cover with damp cloth again. Sit for one hour in a warm place. (I set it out on our back porch since it’s summer). Be sure to start heating up the oven to 400 degrees (not 350, it makes it the perfect amount to crusty!) at about 15 minutes til so the oven will be warm already.

Bake uncovered 45 minutes.

Enjoy!!

Grace + Common Sense

This world is crazy and if I pay too much attention to it I will lose heart and mind. So what to do? Lavishly sprinkle grace and common sense unto everything: motherhood, spiritual and mental health, wellness, fitness. Life.

Common sense is a luxury… and grace is often withheld where it could be poured out. Thankfully, we have such THE Perfect Example to follow.

This is what my blog is all about.
