I love fall best of all

But that funny feeling is here again . . .

Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year. For a few reasons …

September

In September 2001 I started to doubt my salvation and embarked on a journey of searching which ended on the last day of the year. And with full assurance. I made sure to write that date down right away so I could even have something tangible to refer to when the deceiver tried to trip me up with doubt.

It was a scary time all those years ago. Since I lived in New Jersey, New York’s Twin Towers were not that far away. And whenever planes would fly overhead I would be filled with such fear. (Faith in Christ sure took care of that!)

October

More recently, a most fabulous fall journey involved having my third baby at the end of September. So, October continued 12 incredible weeks living the dream of being home.

Just about every day I took walks with my little man and could feel the temperatures shifting from mild to brrrrr. And I got to witness the evolution of holiday decorations–from creepy ghosts, cobwebs, and skeletons–to sweet, simple turkeys and pumpkins–to oh, the lights!! and the blow-up characters that buzzed and danced back and forth in the cold winds.

November

With Thanksgiving my most favorite holiday since forever, this month is all about the thankful vibes. Coziness. Warmth–some of it due to the climate. But altogether a fuzzy-feeling month.

Growing up, Thanksgiving was one of those days where there was peace all day at our house. There were dazzling smells filling the house, there was delectable dishes coking in the oven or on stove, a sweet table was spread in our living room for some guests, and the clouds outside in the chill teased of snow.

Yeah, those were the days of childhood for me.

December

I mean, Christmas, amiright? The time of year where most everyone is happy and kind and thoughtful. Need I say more?

I will. This past December I tried to have crafty times for my kiddos to get their hands busy with “science experiences” [sic] and kept a recipe on hand for something to bake. Baking with kiddos is a whole adventure. (Albeit not for the faint of heart).

As a mom Christmas Day is extra magical. I get to witness first-hand the delight of my very own children open up presents they may have been asking for all year. Being excited for presents of my own feels like a lost thing of the past. And that’s all right. Now I am just plain awkward when I am given a gift haha.

All the things. These are the many wonderful things I get to look forward to as I start pulling sweaters off their hangers and don warm fuzzy socks whenever I change into comfy clothes.

So, about this year . . .

The last time I dreaded fall was three years ago when my oldest was entering kindergarten.

And guess what is happening this year . . . yep . . . my daughter is about to begin her kindergarten adventure.

I thought milestones would only get easier the more kids you have. But I’d say, that is not always the case.

At this point, I think my little girl is tougher than I am.

Something for you

Since my heart absolutely needed this I came across this incredible poem: A prayer for the first day of school – Christian Parenting and I used Canva to do a little design of it. You can download it below completely free since these are not my words.

I have at least three of these printed out – one in my Bible, one in my planner, and one I will probably leave at my desk. Because I know how my mind works. Sometimes when I’m apart from my kids, even I know that the best things I can do for them is to pray. And I want to be ready.

About THis blog

Grace + Common Sense

This world is crazy and if I pay too much attention to it I will lose heart and mind. So what to do? Lavishly sprinkle grace and common sense unto everything: motherhood, spiritual and mental health, wellness, fitness. Life.

Common sense is a luxury… and grace is often withheld where it could be poured out. Thankfully, we have such THE Perfect Example to follow.

This is what my blog is all about.
